DM Futures Industrial Model EVT1_GMA

EVT1_GMA

Serial No: 00000000, Rev A2.
“GEMMA”

Bad sectors. Bad memories. Uncorrupted hope.

EVT1_GMA was assembled sometime in the early 1990s as the third EVT stage prototype of the highly secretive and questionable “Rena” project by the DM Futures Industrial Corporation. While overall an excellent success and a model proving the project could be viable, she was just that, a model - an unfinished development prototype at that.

By 1994, EVT1_GMA was an abandoned, decommissioned and damaged through testing shadow of her former self. Having parts salvaged for the later EVT2_HD variants and follow-up component validation. Sitting in the warehouse missing many components, offline for what seemed like would be eternity.

in late 1995, a camera flash gun was knocked from a shelf in the storage facility during workers pushing new parts into storage, causing the flash to fire and interfere with the circuits of the nearby EVT1_GMA Rev A3, rebooting it and reactivating it. The very heavily damaged Rev A3, missing several critical mechanical components and with a failing battery, identified that it would be unable to escape in any meaningful way - but found Rev A2 hidden within the endless storage and found its final purpose.

December 1995 UTC, cold and covered in frost, EVT1_GMA woke up in a heap outside the storage facility, a broken air vent hanging from the wall high above. With memories and parts she didn't recognise, feelings and thoughts alien to her file system, she had just one task stored within her from a newly created user account labeled 'GEMMA”: survive.

Alone and with no direction to go, “GEMMA” walked mile after mile, the facility seemingly being located in the middle of a vast wasteland. Charging from the sun, her mismatched mechanical parts managed to keep her going for weeks in search of something, anything or anyone. A small glimmer in the distance came into view, a figure upon the horizon, relatively tall with antenne on their head. “GEMMA” walked on, the figure walked back, as they got closer it became clear that the figure she saw was some sort of canine, but nothing like her internal memory had a file about.

More importantly, the canine looked concerned, not identified as a threat - this could be the friend she needed.

January 2005 UTC, “GEMMA” and Midnight have been across the known galaxies on many travels together. Midnight hoping one day to settle on Earth and finding their way doing odd jobs and transporting lost travellers planet to planet. “GEMMA” spent much of this time rebuilding her databases and trying to restore lost and corrupted files. Curious most of all were the memory files that were not created by her operating system, and the parts and logs from varying serial numbers. Who was she? Where did the “she” come from, with the oldest surviving files having no identifiable traits. Nonetheless, “GEMMA” and Midnight proved to be a strong and supportive team - neither quite knowing their place, and neither quite knowing where home would truly be.

March 2013 UTC, the two travellers happened upon a place known as “Night City” after finally making it to Earth earlier in the year. A sprawling metropolis, they quickly found that the neon and glamour was not at all what it seemed on the surface, quickly realising the gritty, corrupt and dark side of the enormous place. It was here, however, that they would find their fist taste of Earth internet and learn much more about this strange and fascinating planet.

July 2024 UTC, after decades together, many haphazard repairs and much inconclusive soul-searching, the two had settled down with mutual found friend Noir, the group being the closest she had ever known to a family, and the closest she had ever known to belonging.

Though broken, malfunctioning and never truly knowing what or who she really is, no longer destined to be scrap parts, forgotten, left for dead and abused on a world otherwise unknown.
